Buyer's Information

Registration

In order to bid on auctions or purchase "Maxx Deals" online, you must have a Maxx Liquidation Marketplace account. Registration is free. You must be at least 18 years old and have a valid credit card to activate an account. Maxx will attempt a $1000 pre-authorization on your credit card at the time of application. This authorization will disappear within 7-10 business days. There will be an authorization for each registration attempt. You will be sent an SMS to the cellphone number you provide at the time of registration. This will be used to validate the number you have provided. You will be given the option to update your notifications to receive them via email or via SMS.

New Member Probation Period

New members are subject to payment and bidding restrictions. You will not be permitted to send online payments with your credit card via Authorize-Net until your account meets our security requirements (be a member for 30 days, spend $1000 and complete payment on 5 invoices). Until then, you may pay for your items online through the checkout portal on your account with PayPal (E-CHECKS are not accepted) or e-transfer. You may also pay in-store using Cash, Interac, Visa, Mastercard, Amex and Discover. Once your account has the restrictions automatically lifted, you will be permitted to send online payments using our online credit card checkout portal through your account.

Bid Increments

All auctions begin at $1.00 with no reserves. Bids are accepted in the following increments:

  • $1-$9 ~ $1
  • $10-$19 ~ $2
  • $20-$99 ~ $5
  • $100-$299 ~ $10
  • $300-$749 ~ $25
  • $750-$1499 ~ $50
  • $1500-$4999 ~ $100
  • $5000-$19,999 ~ $500
  • $20,000 AND UP ~ $1,000

20% Buyer’s Premium

Our auction events charge a 20% Buyer’s Premium which is displayed on the Browse and Listing pages. The Buyer’s Premium is taxable and will be applied to auction items only upon checkout. For example, if you won an auction item for $100, your end purchase price would be $100 plus $20 plus HST on $120.

Bidding Practices

We use the proxy (automatic) method of bidding, meaning that we will bid on your behalf up to the maximum amount you have indicated (if necessary). The definition of proxy bidding (used by eBay) is stated below.

"Proxy bidding is an implementation of an English second-price auction used on eBay, in which the winning bidder pays the price of the second-highest bid plus a defined increment."

Examples of our bidding process are explained below:

  • If an auction has no bids, and you enter a maximum bid of $25.00, your current bid is $1.00 and if nobody else bids, you will win the auction for $1.00.
  • If another bidder bids $15.00, we will automatically increase your bid to $17.00.
  • If another bidder bids $26.00 (or higher), you have been outbid and will be notified via email or SMS.

You have the option to increase your proxy bid at any time before the auction ends.

In the event that 2 members bid the same amount, the first member to place said bid will take precedence.

New members are subject to bidding restrictions. You will be required to check out your invoice once you have won 3 items or your invoice total exceeds $1000, whichever comes first. If you need your invoice recorded as paid immediately, please DO NOT send e-transfer. Paypal is recommended. Once your invoice is marked paid – a new invoice will be created. Refer to the New Member Probation Period for more information.

Quickbid

A Quickbid is the ability to bid the next available increment in the auction. It is available on the browse pages of auctions and your active bids page of your account. Once executed, the listing will inform you of your status, winning or being outbid by another bidder's proxy (max) bid.

Soft Close (Popcorn Bidding)

If a bid is placed on an item within 1 minute of closing, the closing time will be extended by 1 minute.

Buyer’s Remorse

If you have won an Auction or Maxx Deal item that you no longer wish to buy (buyer's remorse), we do allow members to cancel their purchase(s) by paying a restocking fee for each lot they want cancelled (unless stated otherwise in listing comments). This fee is 20% (minimum $50 for regular items or $100 for pallets) of the sale price of the item(s) being restocked, plus taxes. This fee must be paid via e-transfer, debit or cash. This fee must be received, and staff must acknowledge its receipt before any removal and payment deadlines pass.

Should you need to remove a Special Event Auction item from your account, you will be charged a minimum 20% (minimum $100 for regular items or $200 for pallets), whichever is greater, plus taxes. This fee must be paid via Cash, Debit or E-Transfer (to [email protected]). We regret that we are unable to remove As Is lots after they have been picked.

What are "Maxx Deal" items?

They are items available at any time for immediate purchase. These items have the same warranties and payment/pickup policies as auction items. There are no Buyer’s Premiums on Maxx Deals.

Methods of Payment

We accept Cash, Interac, Visa, Mastercard, Amex and Discover, e-transfer (to [email protected]) and Paypal.
We reserve the right to accept or deny certain payment methods at our discretion.

Account Suspension

Any accounts with outstanding payment balances will be suspended. In order to reactivate your account, a $100.00 reactivation charge plus all fees owing must be paid in full via e-transfer, debit or cash. We reserve the right to report any delinquent accounts to collection agencies.

Pickup Information

All items purchased on or before Tuesday at 11:59 pm must be paid for and picked up by the upcoming Friday at 6pm. If an item is not paid for and picked up by the Friday deadline, Maxx Liquidation Marketplace will remove the item(s) from your account and charge the payment method on file, without notification, for all fees owed.

You will be charged a restocking fee of 20%, minimum $50 ($100 for pallets) of the sale price of the item(s) not removed, plus taxes. If this is a Special Event item you will be charged 20%, minimum $100 ($200 for pallets) of the sale price of the item(s) not removed, plus taxes.

For example, if you win a small auction item for $88 and you do not come to remove it from our premises by your deadline, Maxx will charge your card on file for $50 plus taxes, and the item will be removed from your account and re-sold. If you win a large/pallet item for $382 and you do not remove it from our premises by your deadline, Maxx will charge your card on file for $100 plus taxes, and the item will be removed from your account and re-sold.

Please note that we are unable to separate or combine invoices. Payment and pick up times will be based on the date of oldest item purchased. Our 3% payment discount only applies when the entire invoice is paid with one of the acceptable forms of payment, e-transfer, in-store debit, or cash.
